Well, another good band practise this morning. Had a good walk down the hill with Ali. Seems like stress is getting to him, but he’d cheered right up once we got a coffee from the elephant house. Oh, and excitingly (!) my Swedish EBS Multicomp arrived at 8:30am today, just in time for me to try it out in the band practise.
A Rough (and I mean rough) recording of the Al and Al Band
May 23, 2008Righteo, hope the rest of the band don’t mind me uploading this here. But hey, who reads this blog apart from (a) the rest of the band, (b) maybe some other friends, who would of been at the gig anyway and (c) a load of angry BT people (yes, they’re still coming here for whatever reason) and (b) a lot of people wanting the Hell of Sand game (for some reason I was hit number 1 for googling “hell of sand” yesterday. what’s up with that?
Rough recording of the Warr and acoustic guitar instrumental
May 20, 2008Hello,
I’m still not sure how we managed to get away with this at the jazz bar gig a month ago. We can’t really remember exactly what either or us played. None the less, Ali and i managed to get a rough rough instrumental take down so we can have a think about what to do with it (lyrics, fiddle, melody, play in band? etc). And yes, we know we’re speeding up throughout. But any suggestions about what to do with it, please let us know.
” Music ‘can enhance wine taste’” - the other way around works too! (Henry’s gig)
May 15, 2008The Beeb are reporting on cutting edge research from my uni: ” The Heriot Watt University study found people rated the change in taste by up to 60% depending on the melody heard.” While this may be true, I think the opposite effect is of more use, at least if last night’s gig at Henry’s Cellar Bar is anything to go by.

Cute wee flash thing. Good fun for messing around with for a couple of minutes while waiting for your cup of tea…
Summertime….
May 6, 2008Ah, finally, some nice weather. Which meant I could start me week off with a nice cycle to campus yesterday morning. Easily beats sitting on a bus…. good exercise, and the canal is pretty nice for the most part. (You just have to watch out for kids with air rifiles sniping from the flats in Wester Hailes). I guess I’m pretty lucky having a nice cylce route to work and back
The Return of the Crimson King
April 19, 2008Wooo. Exicting news. Sounds like the next King Crimson line-up is underway. No Trey this time, but Levin is back, so no great loss. Swapping one of the best warr/stick players on the planet for another. And, apparently the drummer from Porcupine Tree is joining in. So that’s quite exciting. Not that they’re likely to touch down in the UK, let along Scotland. But a new Crimson album is always welcome. Who knows what Fripp will come up with next ![]()
Two Good Gigs on a Trot
April 19, 2008Wooo. After the nice jazz bar gig, Al and I - with the help of Niki - managed to play a second good gig, this time at The Ark (which is rapidly becoming one of the best small venues to play in town).
Two pictures from the jazz bar gig
April 7, 2008The jazz bar gig last week went great. First decent gig we’ve done in ages. Thanks to the lovely Jenny for joining us on guest vocals. Next up, there’s a band gig on Sunday at the Ark. In the meantime, here are a couple of photos from the Exposed website. Read the rest of this entry »
Phun - 2D physics sandbox
March 29, 2008I saw this a week or so ago, bookmarked it, and then forgot about it. Finally got round to having a play about with it today, and it’s great fun. Figured I should pass on the recommendation!
